Long time no post!

July 1, 2011

Well it looks like its been about 4 years since my last post, so I thought if anybody is still subscribed to this blog, it was time for an update.

A lot has happened since 2007, I finished uni, I got my first animation job working at Act3Animation in Chapel St (no longer there), I met the lovely Candice and we have been going out for 4 years now.
After a year and a bit at Act3 there wasn’t much work around so I left to work with the guys at Eness, and well that was awesome. We put on a birthday extravaganza for the richest man in Thailand (KING POWER!), we exhibited an installation at the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei in Taiwan, and most recently we collaborated with Cirque du Soleil at the 50th birthday party for Victor Pinchuk in the French Alps, another richy rich, this time from the Ukraine. The guys at Eness are really talented and it was a great experience to work with them, but again my wanderlust and need for new and exciting things compelled me to move on.

In a transitional quandary, I applied for a Public Sculpture Grant with the City of Yarra, which surprisingly I got! We are now up to 2009/10 for anyone playing at home.
So that was great I put a lot of hard work into that sculpture and only recently have I finally installed it. (I will talk about it in more detail soon)

Last year (2010) I again worked with the guys from Act3 on a project for the Melbourne Museum. It is a permanent installation consisting of 6 minutes of Stereo 3d Animation about the formation of the Earth, volcanoes etc etc. It is presented in a 360 degree cinema, so that you really feel like you are inside a volcano, or floating through space. That was a fun project and I worked from home on it for about 6 months, which was really enjoyable.
After that job, I took a few months off, working on my art and relaxing, the Cirque du Soleil thing was in December last year, Paris in the snow is really beautiful. Candice and I are going again at the end of this year. And now I am at Iloura, working on the FX for the next Ghost Rider Movie. (Trailer coming soon!)

In May I won the Toorak Village Traders Award for my sculpture ‘The Mortality Mirror’ (photo’s coming soon) and I am currently working on several new pieces.
I have found a nice balance between working and sculpture, but I think I would like to focus more on just sculpture as I find these long Animation jobs quite tiring.

Anyway that’s about it, I’m sure I have left a tonne of stuff out but that’s all I can remember. I am going to try and keep this blog more up to date, try being the operative word there! :P

Thanks for reading

exploded animation screen capture
Hi, ive only got three hours till my final industrial design presentation ever…hopefully!? Im waiting for my film to export out of Aftereffects and its taking a bloody long time, but im hoping that when its finsihed it will look pretty sweet. Anyway, heres a screen shot from my exploded view animation, basically it goes from film of me playing my synth in its guitar mode, then i smash it, and i cut to 3D where it all smashes apart, showing the different components. Looks pretty sweet, although it took like a week to render 1000 frames. Ahhhh, Freaking out now, have to go.

As I have about 4 days left until my honours’ presentation, this is a short message about my best friend Zarani’s website. It is set up to provide information about the products she has made, and is selling at Bimbo’s on Chapel St, St Yarra. You can read the website to see what it is all about but basically this is her honours project and its about packaging and branding items that you would not typically see as a commodity to be bought and sold. There are things like beautifully packaged cigarette butts, used teabags and staples. A wooden spoon, that is not really a wooden spoon; and many more. Anyway, please check out her website, there are some nice pictures and the layout’s pretty cool, oh and leave feedback via the email address. Well thats it. As my friend Mihoko would say; CHECK IT OUT! www.index-products.com
